Bryan J. Marks joins Cardinal Recovery as Executive Director with over 20 years of experience leading and transforming organizations within the healthcare and nonprofit sectors. A results-oriented leader, Bryan has a proven track record of streamlining complex operations, maximizing organizational impact, and cultivating high-performing teams dedicated to human services.
Why Cardinal for me: "It often comes down to three pillars: the people, the process, and the supporting partners. While that may sound simple, it was the exceptional team at Cardinal Recovery and the robust support of Luna Health that truly drew me to this role. I am honored to lead a dedicated group of professionals who invest their full selves into the service of others.
Mary Hughes has a passion for recovery. Over the years, she has seen the transformation that recovery can bring into the lives of those it touches. Prior to choosing the recovery world as her career path, she walked this journey with many people through a 12-step program and as a volunteer at Indiana Women's Prison, Fairbanks Recovery Center, and through working with homeless clients at Interfaith Hospitality Network. Inspired to share her experience in a more impactful way, Mary returned to school and earned her Master of Arts degree from Indiana Wesleyan in Addiction Counseling. She proceeded to obtain her license from the state of Indiana as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor.
While in school she served as an intern at Progress House, a recovery residence in Indianapolis for 100 men, and was later hired as a full-time employee. She continued her work with the criminal justice population when she became part of the team at Addiction Care Interventions in Franklin, Indiana. When Addiction Care joined forces with Cardinal Recovery, Mary welcomed the additional services and commitment to quality care that Cardinal was able to provide.
Mary has no doubt that sobriety is available to anyone who is willing to work for it.
Jenna Steele serves as Director of Operations for Cardinal Recovery where she oversees the day-to-day functions of the facility, ensuring that every aspect of operations reflects our mission to treat all clients with respect and dignity while equipping them with the skills needed to live full, meaningful lives. Her role centers on running the facility efficiently and thoughtfully so that clinical and support teams can focus on delivering consistent, high-quality care within an environment rooted in compassion and accountability.
She has been part of the organization since 2022, a tenure that has given her a deep appreciation for every role within the facility. Her career began on the front lines as a Behavioral Health Technician, followed by service as a Case Manager, before joining the Operations Team in 2023. These progressive experiences have shaped her leadership philosophy and reinforced her belief that respectful, dignified treatment begins with a clear understanding of the daily realities faced by both clients and staff.
In 2023, she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Human Services from Purdue University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with a concentration in Human Service Administration and continues to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Her academic background strengthens her commitment to ethical leadership, operational excellence, and person-centered service delivery.
Her work is deeply personal. She brings lived experience into her leadership, having spent nearly 17 years in active addiction. Recovery, as she describes it, “gave me a second chance at life,” and that experience continues to shape how she leads and serves each day. She understands the importance of individuals feeling respected, seen, and capable—never defined by their past. This perspective allows her to lead with empathy, honesty, and understanding while maintaining the high standards that help clients build the skills and confidence necessary for long-term recovery.
At Cardinal, she believes the organization’s responsibility extends beyond treatment alone. “Our role is to walk alongside clients,” she explains, “offering structure, support, and education that empowers them to live independently and with purpose.” From her perspective, every process, policy, and operational decision should support that mission by creating an environment where dignity is upheld and growth is possible.
Outside of work, she is a proud mother of four, married to an incredibly supportive husband, and the caretaker of three cats who keep life lively and interesting. Family, balance, and authenticity are values that guide both her personal life and her leadership.
Each day, she considers it an honor to support her team and contribute to a mission that changes lives. Leading with integrity, compassion, and respect is not simply part of her role—it is, as she puts it, “the foundation of how I serve.”
